Need the words from a presentation without opening PowerPoint and copying one text box at a time? This free PPT to text converter accepts PPT and PPTX files, extracts readable slide text in order, and displays the result in your browser. You can review it, copy it, download a UTF-8 TXT file, or move a supported portion into a text-to-speech workflow.

Searches such as PowerPoint to text, PPTX to text, PPT to TXT, and “extract text from PowerPoint” usually describe the same goal: separating the words from the slide design. The output is plain text. It does not recreate the presentation's layout, animations, graphics, or speaker notes.

How to Convert PPT to Text Online

Each extraction starts with one presentation:

  1. Upload a PPT or PPTX file. Drag it into the upload area or click to choose a file from your device. The maximum source-file size is 50MB.
  2. Start the extraction. After the upload finishes, select Create. The page creates a processing task and reports its status in the results area.
  3. Review the slides in order. The result card shows the extracted text, character count, and slide count. Text from adjacent slides is separated by a blank line.
  4. Copy, download, or continue with audio. Copy the result, download it as TXT, or use Text to Speech to carry a supported portion into Echora's speech workspace.

The extraction tool is free and does not require an account, credits, or desktop software. Always compare important names, numbers, quotations, and technical details with the original presentation.

How PPT and PPTX Text Extraction Works

PPTX is the current XML-based PowerPoint format, while PPT is the older binary format. Both are handled on this page, so you do not need a separate PPTX to text converter.

The service checks the uploaded file, opens it in a server-side presentation environment, and exports the slides to a PDF representation. It then reads the available text from each exported page and joins the results in slide order. This route is designed to preserve a useful reading sequence between slides, not the visual structure inside every slide.

A corrupted, password-protected, renamed, or otherwise unsupported presentation may fail. Changing another file's extension to .ppt or .pptx does not turn it into a valid PowerPoint presentation.

PPT and PPTX to TXT: What Is Preserved?

Converting PPTX to TXT keeps the text that can be exported from the visible slides. Slide order is retained, and a blank line separates one slide's extracted text from the next. Simple titles and body text usually produce the clearest result.

The plain-text output does not promise to preserve:

  • fonts, colors, sizes, bullets, or text styles;
  • slide backgrounds, themes, layouts, or exact coordinates;
  • images, video, audio, charts, shapes, or diagrams as visual objects;
  • animations, transitions, hyperlinks, or interactive behavior;
  • speaker notes, comments, or revision history;
  • exact reading order inside complex columns, tables, SmartArt, or overlapping text boxes.

Some words associated with charts, tables, or shapes may still appear when the presentation exports them as text, but their visual relationships can be lost. If you need an editable presentation with its design intact, use PowerPoint or a format-preserving presentation editor instead.

When a PowerPoint to Text Converter Is Useful

Copy All Text from a PowerPoint

Instead of opening each slide and selecting individual text boxes, extract the deck into one result that is easier to search and copy. This is useful for collecting headings, bullet points, lesson content, or meeting material into notes.

Prepare Slide Text for Editing or Analysis

Plain text can be a practical starting point for proofreading, summarizing, translating, classifying, or reviewing a presentation. The converter only extracts text; it does not automatically rewrite, translate, or summarize it.

Searching one TXT result can be quicker than moving through a long deck slide by slide. Use it to locate a term, date, name, product detail, or repeated phrase, then verify the finding in the original slide.

Turn Slide Text into Speech

The result card includes a Text to Speech action. It sends up to the first 5,000 characters of the extracted result to the text-to-speech page, where you can choose a voice and continue. Copy or download the full TXT separately when the presentation is longer.

Tips for Better PPT-to-Text Results

  • Use the original presentation. A genuine PPTX or PPT is more reliable than a damaged download or a file with a changed extension.
  • Prefer real text boxes. Words stored as slide text are extractable; words flattened into screenshots or scanned images are not processed with OCR.
  • Review complex slide layouts. Multi-column slides, tables, diagrams, and overlapping objects may produce an unexpected reading order.
  • Check image-only slides. An empty result for a slide can mean its visible words are part of an image rather than editable presentation text.
  • Watch for the truncation label. The service returns up to 50,000 characters. Split a very long deck when you need text from slides beyond that limit.
  • Proofread before publishing. Compare quotations, figures, names, formulas, and legal or academic material with the source presentation.

File Limits and Results

The uploader accepts one PPT or PPTX file at a time, up to 50MB. A completed card shows the character count and number of slides, keeps slide text separated by blank lines, and provides copy, UTF-8 TXT download, and Text to Speech actions. The downloaded file uses the source filename with a .txt extension.

The extraction service returns no more than 50,000 characters and marks the result if longer content has been truncated. Image-only slides may contribute no text because this PowerPoint route does not run OCR. Speaker notes are not included.

PPT to Text vs. PDF, Word, and Image Extraction

Choose the tool that matches the actual source:

  • Use this PPT to text converter for .ppt and .pptx presentations.
  • Use PDF to Text for a PDF that already contains a readable text layer.
  • Use Word to Text for .doc and .docx documents.
  • Use Image to Text for a screenshot or scanned slide that needs OCR.

If a presentation contains important text only inside images, export those slides as images and use OCR on the relevant files. The PPT converter reads exportable presentation text; it does not recognize letters inside pictures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this PPT to text converter free?

Yes. You can upload a supported PPT or PPTX file and extract its text without an account or credits. The result appears on the page for review, copying, and TXT download.

Can I convert PPTX to text online?

Yes. The tool converts exportable text from PPTX slides into a plain-text result, keeps the slides in order, and lets you download the output as a UTF-8 .txt file.

Does it support older PPT files?

Yes. Both older PPT and modern PPTX presentations are accepted up to 50MB. Damaged, encrypted, password-protected, or invalid files may not be extractable.

How can I copy all text from a PowerPoint?

Upload the presentation, start the extraction, and wait for the result card. You can then use Copy Text to copy the combined slide text or Download TXT to save it as one file.

Are slide formatting and speaker notes preserved?

No. The output is plain text. Visual formatting, slide geometry, animations, transitions, images, and speaker notes are not preserved. Complex objects may also produce a different reading order.

Can it extract words from images in a presentation?

No OCR is applied to embedded images. Export an image-only slide or the relevant picture and use the image-to-text OCR tool when the words exist only as pixels.

What happens when the presentation exceeds 50,000 characters?

The service returns the first 50,000 characters and marks the result as truncated. Split the source presentation into smaller decks if you need text from later slides.

Can I process several presentations at once?

The upload area handles one source file per extraction. You can clear it and submit another presentation; completed result cards remain available until you clear the results.

Upload a PPT or PPTX file in the converter above to extract, copy, or download its slide text. For a shorter result that you want to hear, use the result card's Text to Speech action or open the Text to Speech workspace.
